4 Crucial Steps to Perform Now:
Step 1: Assess & Encourage Coughing
Ask "Are you choking?" If the person can speak, cough forcefully, or breathe, encourage them to keep coughing. Do not slap their back yet.
Step 2: Give 5 Firm Back Blows
Stand behind the person, lean them slightly forward, and deliver 5 sharp blows between their shoulder blades with the heel of your hand.
Step 3: Perform 5 Abdominal Thrusts (Heimlich)
Wrap your arms around their waist. Make a fist just above the navel. Grasp the fist with your other hand and pull sharply inward and upward 5 times.
Step 4: If Unresponsive, Begin CPR
If the object does not dislodge and victim loses consciousness, lower them gently to the floor, call 112 / 108, and begin chest compressions immediately.
